The Network Challenge:
Business applications originally developed for use on LANs run inefficiently across the WAN and are hampered by bandwidth limitations and latency. Furthermore, repetitive data sent across the WAN increases total link utilization and network congestion. A multitude of applications compete for limited WAN resources causing further congestion and poor application response times. IT staffs are seeking an effective and economical alternative to adding more bandwidth to solve poor application performance. They need tools that can help them understand how the network is being used and improve application performance to support business goals.
The Solution:
Exinda Networks provides a range of fully integrated WAN optimization and application acceleration appliances that boost the performance of applications over the WAN. Exinda’s x800 appliances combine award-winning traffic management technology with advanced optimization and acceleration capabilities for the industry’s most complete solution.
Exinda’s x800 product family offers a full range of proven, resilient appliances to meet your application performance goals and budget requirements. The appliances provide extensive network reports as well as the ability to manage network usage, solve congestion issues and prioritize time-sensitive services. Users will benefit from faster, uninterrupted access to applications across town or across the world. Exinda’s acceleration protocol is transparent, allowing for seamless network integration. Transparency means that implementation is simplified by leaving all access control rules and IDS/IPS policies intact.
Exinda Unified Performance Management (UPM):
Exinda’s UPM appliances integrate application visibility, application response measurement, WAN optimization and application acceleration onto a single appliance with centralized management from Exinda’s Service Delivery Point.
What You Can’t See Can Hurt You
In many organizations, when end users complain about slow applications on the WAN, IT staff have no idea why. This is because they have only limited visibility into the types of Internet traffic on the network. Without visibility and control, IT is essentially flying blind when it comes to addressing poor network performance, slow applications, bandwidth congestion or the need to prioritize critical applications like voice over IP (VoIP).
WAN Optimization Made Easy
The Exinda WAN optimization appliance allows organizations to instantly gain deep visibility into all network activity and identify why applications are performing poorly on the WAN. Providing network visibility, control and optimization in a single, affordable, “plug-and-play” appliance, Exinda allows organizations to rapidly identify bottlenecks, control recreational traffic and intelligently accelerate applications.

How It Works:
Turn Chaos Into Clarity with Real-time Visibility and Reporting: Bandwidth Monitoring
Without effective network monitoring and visibility, WAN activity can appear chaotic and uncontrollable. Simply by installing the Exinda WAN optimization appliance for bandwidth monitoring, organizations gain visibility into network activity and usage. After running Exinda in monitoring mode for a short period of time, organizations can generate meaningful historical reports that show network usage trends and peaks and valleys in bandwidth utilization. With Exinda, organizations can control bandwidth and identify the top bandwidth consuming applications on the network including recreational traffic and rapidly pinpoint mis-configurations, congestion and bottlenecks.

Figure 1 – Exinda provides graphical reports that list the top inbound and outbound applications on the network. Drill-down capabilities provide fine-grained visibility into network usage. Reports can be automatically emailed in PDF format on a daily basis to key IT personnel or business executives.

Figure 2 – Exinda features industry-leading Microsoft® Active Directory Integration that allows organizations to “follow the user” by tracking network and application usage by Active Directory User Name. Network administrators can apply optimization policies to active Directory users or groups for precise control.
Take Charge of the Network and Applications with Precise Control: Control Bandwidth
Based on a thorough understanding of what is happening on the WAN, organizations are now ready to take control of network acceleration with Exinda. Exinda's WAN solutions provide network managers and administrators with the ability to set policies to manage and control WAN and Internet traffic. With Exinda, organizations can “fair share” bandwidth among various users, groups and applications while restricting unwanted recreational traffic. To keep low-priority traffic from interfering with WAN performance and application response times, Exinda allows you to detect evasive applications, limit the bandwidth allotted to P2P traffic or eliminate some types of recreational traffic altogether.

Figure 3 – Basic and Advanced User Interface Options allow Exinda users to choose the level of detail presented in the User Interface and easily toggle between Basic and Advanced interfaces. The Exinda Basic Web User Interface is designed for simplified operations and management of devices, whereas the Advanced interface provides more advanced policy-based traffic control.
Keep the WAN Running in an Optimal State: WAN Solutions
Exinda combines sophisticated traffic optimization with intelligent network acceleration. Exinda's WAN solutions provide detailed application classification and prioritization, granular policy-based traffic control and selective TCP and network acceleration. With Exinda, organizations can dramatically improve application response times, increase traffic throughput and reduce the effects of latency on the network. Exinda enables organizations to continually optimize the network and achieve near LAN-like application performance across the WAN.

Technology:
Exinda’s x800 appliances utilize the following techniques:
- TCP Acceleration - Reduces the effects of latency by reducing unnecessary TCP round trips and automatically adapts TCP windows size to ensure WAN links are fully utilized.
- CIFS & HTTP Acceleration - Uses specific protocol dialects to fully optimize CIFS & HTTP traffic; prefetching, read ahead and write behind further accelerate CIFS traffic. Exinda is particularly effective at improving CIFS performance for links with more than 30ms latency.
- WAN Memory - Eliminates repetitive data leveraging both RAM caching for interactive applications and disk-based caching for large files and high speed links.
- Application Monitoring - Applies behavioral application classification (heuristics) for faster classification and advanced detection of encrypted applications (Skype, BitTorrent); long term monitoring and drill down analysis provided in CSV, SQL and PDF formats delivered via scheduled emails or integrated alerting system.
- Quality of Service (QoS) & Optimization - Applies relevant QoS policy in conjunction with acceleration techniques; ensures WAN is performing to full capacity and that applications that can’t be accelerated (VoIP, Citrix) are fully optimized; also ensures acceleration will offer consistent benefits.
